Nottingham Forest have appointed former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as their fifth head coach in less than a year. The Austrian arrives at the City Ground as a replacement for Vitor Pereira, who was sacked on Tuesday – two minutes before an exit clause in his contract was due to expire. According to BBC News, Glasner arrives at the City Ground after a successful tenure at Crystal Palace, where he won three trophies in just over two years.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis expressed confidence in Glasner, stating, “Oliver is a winner” and highlighting their shared vision and ambition for the club. Contact with 51-year-old Glasner, who left Palace at the end of last season, was initiated earlier this summer. He previously led Palace to their first major honour, the FA Cup, in his first season, and secured the Europa Conference League title last season.
In his first comments after joining Forest, Glasner emphasized the clear vision and trust he feels from the club’s leadership. He noted that the potential within the squad was a significant factor in his decision to take on the role. Marinakis reiterated the club’s ambition to re-establish Nottingham Forest among the leading clubs in England and Europe, aiming not just to compete but to win major honours.
Pereira, who replaced Dyche in February, guided Forest to 16th in the Premier League – five points above the relegation zone – and the Europa League semi-finals, where they lost to eventual winners Aston Villa. However, his tenure was short-lived, reflecting the club’s recent instability in management. Glasner now faces the challenge of bringing stability and success to a club that has struggled with frequent managerial changes in the past year.
