Arabic version: الولايات المتحدة تشن غارات جوية جديدة على إيران بعد الهجمات البحرية
The United States has initiated a new series of strikes against Iran, following President Donald Trump’s announcement to retaliate after recent maritime attacks attributed to Tehran. Explosions have been reported in southern Iran, including the port cities of Sirik and Bandar Abbas, which are located along the critical Strait of Hormuz shipping lane. According to BBC News, Trump stated that these actions are in retribution for Iran’s bombing of ships in the region.
Reports from Gulf nations indicated Iranian responses to the US strikes, with explosions noted in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, and missile interceptions occurring in Kuwait. Qatar also issued a security alert following these developments. While Iranian officials have not yet commented on the strikes, they had previously warned of an immediate response to any US aggression.
US Central Command (Centcom) explained that the strikes aimed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that the US holds Iran accountable for its recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping. Multiple explosions have also reportedly been heard in various locations along the Iranian coast, including Konarak and Chabahar, with Iranian state media claiming damage to infrastructure and military facilities.
President Trump, speaking to reporters, expressed skepticism about Iran’s willingness to negotiate, stating that he doubted whether they would honor any potential deal. He declared the ceasefire agreement signed last month as “over,” indicating a shift in US-Iran relations. Despite ongoing tensions, both sides had previously agreed to a temporary stand-down following a series of strikes in late June, but the current situation suggests a rapid escalation in hostilities.
