Trainee surgeon Ryan Cho has pleaded guilty to charges related to secretly filming hundreds of victims in Melbourne hospitals. According to ABC News, Cho pleaded guilty to 13 charges including stalking, producing an intimate image, and installing an optical surveillance device.

The 29-year-old’s crimes involved the installation of hidden cameras in showers and toilets at the Austin Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. His actions resulted in the production of thousands of intimate images and videos of several hundred victims.

Cho’s legal troubles began when one of his cameras was discovered in a hospital staff toilet last year. Initially facing over 900 charges, a deal between prosecutors and defense lawyers led to a significant reduction in charges. He will now face a County Court pre-sentence hearing in November, where victims will have the opportunity to share how the offenses have impacted their lives.

During the court proceedings, Cho, dressed in a black suit and tie, told Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz he was guilty when asked to stand and enter a plea to the charges. Many of his victims watched the proceedings online. Following his arrest, Cho was released on bail after a year, living with his parents who provided a $50,000 surety. He is required to undergo compulsory medical treatment and is prohibited from attending hospitals except in emergencies.
