The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, visited Birmingham Children’s Hospital on the third day of his UK trip, which had got off to a rocky start. At the hospital, he commended the work of the WellChild charity, of which he is a patron, for its work supporting children with complex medical needs and their families. According to BBC News, he hugged a nurse and was clapped by staff during his visit.

Prince Harry’s trip began with a setback after he lost a court case against Associated Newspapers, casting a shadow over his initial engagements. His first scheduled appearance was marred by the news of the court ruling, which dismissed his allegations of unlawful information gathering. Following this, Buckingham Palace clarified that Prince Harry would not be staying at the palace, contrary to previous announcements by his team.

During his visit to Birmingham, the duke celebrated the 20th anniversary of WellChild nurses, who play a crucial role in coordinating care for children transitioning between home and hospital. He met with Nicky Holt, one of more than 50 nurses funded by WellChild, and interacted with young patients and their families.

Additionally, a train named Spirit of Invictus was unveiled at London’s Euston Station, set to operate on the route to Birmingham, where the Invictus Games will take place next year. A row over security arrangements meant that Prince Harry did not bring Meghan or their children to the London events, but there remains a possibility that they could join him later in the week for engagements in Birmingham.

Speculation continues regarding a potential meeting between Prince Harry’s family and King Charles, although no plans have been confirmed at this time.
