Arabic version: طائرة إسرائيلية مسيرة تصيب موظفين في مستشفى كمال عدوان بغزة
An Israeli drone attack struck Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, injuring hospital staff and others, medical sources said. The assault occurred despite a so-called ceasefire and affected people in and around the facility’s courtyard.
According to Al Jazeera, at least three people were hurt in the courtyard and three others nearby; the Palestinian news agency Wafa said three “civilians” were wounded in the courtyard and three “maintenance workers” in the vicinity. The report noted the hospital is located in the so-called Green Zone, an area under Israeli control.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health condemned the attack, describing it as part of Israel’s “systematic targeting of health facilities” and warning that such strikes jeopardise the ability of healthcare workers and hospitals to provide both routine and life-saving medical services. The ministry said the incident occurred despite the ceasefire and highlighted the strain on Gaza’s health system.
Gaza’s healthcare system has all but collapsed as a result of Israel’s genocide, the report said. Thousands of Palestinians require medical treatment abroad, but Israeli restrictions on movement have prevented the vast majority from leaving the Strip, compounding the humanitarian crisis. Wafa also reported that at least a dozen people were injured in Israeli attacks across Gaza on Friday, including several wounded when Israeli forces opened fire near the Bureij refugee camp and others when Israeli drones targeted homes in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City.
The health ministry has called on the United Nations and humanitarian organisations to publicly condemn attacks on Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure in an effort to pressure Israel to stop. The Kamal Adwan strike comes as international pressure grows on Israel to release the hospital’s director, Hussam Abu Safia, who has been arbitrarily detained by Israel for more than 18 months without charge or trial and whose lawyers say his life is at imminent risk. UN experts demanded his release earlier this week. Israel said on Friday that Abu Safia’s detention was “lawful”, rejected reports he suffered a life-threatening condition, and said it held “concrete intelligence”, accusing him of being a member of Hamas. The report also stated that Israel has killed at least 73,110 Palestinians since launching its assault on Gaza on October 7, 2023, and that at least 1,084 Palestinians have been killed since the “ceasefire” started last October.
