According to ABC News, police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old man found with significant injuries at a rural property on Badgally Road in Eschol Park, in Sydney’s south-west. Investigators believe the injuries appeared to be the result of a dog attack.

The man’s body was found about 12am on Wednesday. Police said initial inquiries indicated he may have been attacked by animals before his death. The man was not believed to be a resident of the property, and detectives are examining whether he was an intruder.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said investigators needed to establish why the man was at the location. He described the circumstances as “a terrible set of circumstances” and said the question of whether the man was an intruder was a key line of inquiry.

Police and Campbelltown City Council officers attended the property on Friday, when a number of dogs were removed in council vehicles and taken to an animal care facility. The council said it was supporting police inquiries, including by determining the dogs’ registration and ownership status.

A crime scene has been established and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The property, known as Saturn’s Rings, has conjoined circular buildings and it remained unclear whether anyone was living there when the incident occurred.
