According to ABC News, Melbourne claimed a four-point AFL win over ladder leaders Fremantle, while Sydney defeated Port Adelaide by 97 points and Geelong beat Essendon by 67 points in round 22 action on Saturday.

Melbourne won 17.11 (113) to 17.7 (109) at the MCG after a huge final quarter from Harry Petty. Petty kicked 3.2 for the afternoon, including two goals in the final term, as the Demons prevailed in what ABC described as one of the games of the season.

Sydney defeated Port Adelaide 26.11 (167) to 10.10 (70) at the SCG. Charlie Curnow kicked five goals for the Swans. Port had four goals and led by more than a kick a minute into the second quarter, but Sydney then kicked 23 goals to six.

At Kardinia Park, Geelong defeated Essendon 17.15 (117) to 7.8 (50). The Cats kicked the first 10 goals to establish a 65-point first-half lead. Bailey Smith had a game-high 38 disposals and eight clearances, while Ollie Dempsey, Ollie Henry and Shannon Neale combined for 11 goals. Zach Merrett led Essendon with 29 touches and eight clearances.

In the late match at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide and Richmond were level well into time-on in the opening term after a low-scoring start. Taylor Walker kicked Adelaide’s first goal, while Mykelti Lefau kicked Richmond’s first. Adelaide entered the game in seventh place and could rise as high as fourth with a solid win.
