Arabic version: وصف زيارة وفد الاتحاد الأفريقي إلى الخرطوم بالتاريخية
According to Allafrica, Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem, described a visit to Khartoum by a delegation of African Union ambassadors and members of the African Peace and Security Council as historic.
Salem said Sudan welcomed the delegation’s visit, which came after what he described as the liberation of Khartoum, the defeat of the terrorist militia and the restoration of security and stability in the capital. The delegation met the prime minister, government members, and representatives of political and civil forces at the Council of Ministers headquarters on Sunday.
The foreign minister said the visit gave delegates an opportunity to see firsthand the scale of destruction attributed to the Rapid Support Forces militia. He said representatives of some political forces and parties took part symbolically in the meeting, where a short documentary on alleged crimes and violations by the militia was shown.
Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Mohamed Khaled, who chairs the African Peace and Security Council for August, expressed the AU’s solidarity with Sudan and its people. He said the Union would support Sudan’s efforts to restore security and stability and protect its unity and territorial integrity.
Khaled also restated the council’s commitment to African Union principles, including respect for states’ sovereignty and unity, non-interference in internal affairs, and rejection of actions that could constitute interference in Sudan’s affairs.
