According to Cnbc, Cantor Fitzgerald will provide its clients with institutional trading on prediction market platform Kalshi, serving as a broker for block trades in the platform’s event contracts.
As broker, Cantor will organize large, privately negotiated transactions for clients. Block trades are generally executed outside public markets to limit price volatility and are commonly used by large Wall Street firms. Susquehanna International Group will act as market maker, supplying pricing and liquidity for trades involving Cantor’s clients.
Pascal Bandelier, Cantor’s co-CEO and global head of equities, said prediction markets are expanding rapidly but institutional participation has lagged because investors have not had a way to transact at scale on a regulated exchange. Susquehanna head of business development Joe Grubb said institutional risk transfer could be the next stage of material growth for prediction markets.
Kalshi spokesperson Elisabeth Diana said Cantor contacted the company a few months ago. Cantor can request new markets for its clients, though Kalshi must submit them to the CFTC and ensure sufficient liquidity. Diana said clients could be interested in markets covering climate, weather and economic indicators.
The arrangement is Kalshi’s latest effort to attract Wall Street participants. Retail traders have so far driven the platform’s rise, particularly through sports-related event contracts. Kalshi completed the first block trade on an event contract exchange in April and has announced partnerships and internal initiatives intended to support institutional participation.
