Cameroon Claim First WAFCON Title in Morocco

According to Allafrica, Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses have won the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026, claiming their first African title after a 3-0 victory over Malawi in the final.

The final was played on Sunday at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat. Cameroon’s victory brought the tournament to a close and earned the team USD 2 million in prize money.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe congratulated the Indomitable Lionesses, the Fédération Camerounaise de Football, its president Samuel Eto’o, and the people of Cameroon. In a message to Eto’o, Motsepe praised his leadership and motivation of the team and said he was confident Cameroon would make the country and Africa proud at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027.

Motsepe also paid tribute to Malawi’s Scorchers, who finished runners-up. He congratulated the Football Association of Malawi on the team’s performances and its qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027.

CAF said the WAFCON Morocco 2026 prize money represents an increase of more than 900% under Motsepe’s leadership. The winner of the 2018 competition received USD 200,000.
