According to ABC News, former Bendigo digital forensic officer Vincent Manner has been charged with offences including possession of child abuse material. Manner, 57, was charged on October 13 with misconduct in public office, failing to provide information under warrant, and up to six counts of accessing and possessing child abuse material.

Manner had been suspended without pay in August last year before resigning in November during a police investigation.

Victoria Police said its Professional Standards Unit conducted the investigation with the Cybercrime Squad. Police also worked with the Office of Public Prosecutions to understand the ongoing enquiry’s impact on current investigations and court matters.

Police said potentially affected matters were identified and the forensic data underwent a formal review. The re-examination has been completed, police said, and it is believed all issues have been identified and reviewed. Impacted parties have been notified.

Manner is due to appear in Bendigo Magistrates Court on November 4.
