According to ABC News, a 40-year-old man has died after an apparent hit-and-run crash in Bibra Lake, south of Perth, with police searching for the driver of an unknown vehicle.

Police said the cyclist was struck while riding on North Lake Road at about 5:20am on Tuesday. The man was declared dead at the scene, while the driver remained at large.

Major crash investigators are examining the area near Sobek Pass. A section of North Lake Road has been closed and taped off as officers direct traffic, with a heavy police presence remaining at the site.

The cyclist was hit in the northbound lanes, in the left-turning lane to Sobek Pass. North Lake Road is a four-lane road with a separated bike path beside the southbound lanes. The victim’s bicycle remained at the scene, and the ABC was told members of the public appeared to stop to help after the crash.

Investigators have urged witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
