Arabic version: متفرجون ينقذون سائقاً من سيارة تغرق قرب بريزبن

According to ABC News, a driver was rescued from a sinking four-wheel-drive in floodwaters north of Brisbane by two bystanders, including ABC reporter Will Murray. The incident happened on Buchanan Road at Morayfield after the man drove through water at speed.

The vehicle stalled and began to sink. ABC camera operator Liz Pickering, who was filming footage of the flooded road, said the black utility vehicle became stuck in deep water. It initially continued forward until it reached a small fence, before beginning to sink.

Murray removed his boots and entered the water, Pickering said. Another man who had been standing nearby followed him, and the pair swam out to the vehicle and pulled the driver from it.

Pickering said the two men had “definitely saved that man’s life”, adding there was “no doubt about that”. About 170 millimetres of rain had fallen in the area since the morning. The Queensland Fire Department advised residents not to swim in floodwaters.
