According to ABC News, flood warnings are in place across Queensland as heavy rain continues and a severe weather system is expected to bring further storms to the state’s south-east.

The Mary River at Tiaro, north of Gympie, is rising rapidly above the moderate flood level and could reach the major flood level. Parts of the Mary River catchment have received more than 300 millimetres of rain in the past week, while some Sunshine Coast areas recorded upwards of 400mm.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said river levels were being watched closely after water covered roads and downpours continued. He said the Kidd Bridge outside Gympie could go under and urged people who did not need to drive to stay home.

The Bureau of Meteorology said the inland weather system would move east before shifting to south-east Queensland by Monday. Senior forecaster Felim Hanniffy said Monday was likely to be the peak risk day for the region, with possible large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Moderate flood warnings also cover the Warrego and Weir rivers.

A Watch and Act alert remains active around the Theresa Creek Dam catchment in the Central Highlands. Conditions in Clermont and nearby areas have been downgraded from an Emergency Warning, with Isaac Regional Council Mayor Kelly Vea Vea saying flooding was starting to settle after 157mm fell at Theresa Creek Dam within 24 hours.
