According to ABC News, a convicted child rapist has been arrested and extradited to South Australia over further alleged sexual offences involving a child. The man cannot be named by the ABC and is due to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The man had been wanted in South Australia over alleged serious sexual offending against a child under 18 after fleeing the state in 2024. He was arrested in New South Wales in May 2024 following a police appeal for information about his whereabouts.

At the time of the appeal, South Australia Police said the man was also wanted over alleged offending in other states, including Victoria and Queensland. SA Police confirmed on Monday that a person had been arrested and was being extradited from New South Wales, but said no further information could be released for operational reasons.

Court documents obtained by the ABC said prosecutors requested the man be transferred to South Australia after he appeared in a New South Wales court on Monday morning. The documents stated he was to be held at Broken Hill Police Station until no later than 4:00pm on October 26, before being taken into South Australian Police custody and transported by motor vehicle to the Adelaide City Watchhouse.

The ABC understands the man left Broken Hill about midday. He had previously been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to abducting and raping a child. In 2024, he was sentenced in New South Wales to seven months in jail for theft and driving offences.
