According to ABC News, Victorian election writs will be issued on Tuesday, November 3, formally starting the countdown to the state election later that month.

The writ is an order from the governor of Victoria to the state’s electoral commissioner to hold an election. It sets dates including the close of the electoral roll, the candidate nomination deadline and election day. This year, the electoral roll will close a week earlier than in previous elections.

Victorians have until 8pm on November 3 to enrol, with the same deadline applying to postal-vote applications. Election offices across the state will stay open until 8pm to help people update their enrolment details.

Candidate nominations open at 9am on Wednesday, November 4, and close at midday on Monday, November 9, leaving candidates fewer than five days to nominate under changes made since the 2022 Victorian election. Eligible candidates must be Victorian residents, Australian citizens, at least 18 and enrolled to vote in Victoria.

Early voting begins on Wednesday, November 18, and runs until Friday, November 27. Polling booths will close at 6pm on Saturday, November 28. Upper-house voters who vote above the line will need to indicate at least five preferred parties rather than one.
