According to Al Jazeera, the Netherlands has withdrawn from the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, with public broadcaster NPO citing “sensitivities” surrounding Israel’s participation.

NPO media director Jurre Bosman said Israel’s involvement in the competition had prompted “various reactions in society” and caused “discussion and division”. Following consultation with its board of broadcasters, NPO decided not to take part in 2027.

The move follows an August decision by Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS to boycott the contest. AVROTROS, which normally chooses the Dutch entry and broadcasts Eurovision, said the event could “no longer be considered neutral”. NPO had said last month that it would assume responsibility for the Dutch entry before reversing that position.

NPO executive chairman Jet de Ranitz said the decision would disappoint fans, while adding that the contest would still air on public channels. The Netherlands also boycotted the 2026 edition. Iceland, Spain, Ireland and Slovenia withdrew from that contest, while Spain, Ireland and Slovenia declined to broadcast it.

Ireland has already said it will not participate in Eurovision 2027, marking a second consecutive year out. The Czech broadcaster also withdrew earlier this month, citing spending cuts. Bulgaria will host the 2027 competition in Burgas after singer Darina Yotova, known as Dara, won the 2026 contest in Vienna.
