Parramatta is planning for the future of its parks, open spaces and outdoor recreation areas, with the community invited to have their say on a draft Strategy.

The Draft Open Space and Outdoor Recreation Strategy will guide future planning and investment in open space and outdoor recreation to meet the needs of our growing City.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Cameron MacLean said quality open spaces are critical to Parramatta’s future.

“Parramatta is growing rapidly and as more people choose to live here, we need to plan ahead to ensure our open spaces keep pace with that growth,” Cr MacLean said.

“Our parks and outdoor spaces play an important role in everyday life, supporting healthier communities, stronger connections and a more liveable City.

“We want our community to help shape these spaces for the future, so I encourage residents, community groups and everyone who uses our parks and outdoor facilities to have their say.”

Parramatta is home to more than 375 parks and reserves, covering about 850 hectares of public open space and supporting recreational activities including dog-off leash areas, play spaces, outdoor courts, fitness equipment, walking tracks, picnic areas and barbecues.

Submissions for the draft Strategy close at 5pm on Thursday 17 December 2026.
