According to BBC News, Ellie Carpenter has become a key attacking force for Chelsea Women, scoring four Women’s Super League goals from full-back or wing-back this season.

The Australian made a decisive impact against Roma when Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor introduced her at half-time while seeking a goal. Carpenter scored within six minutes as Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory. Bompastor said she was confident Carpenter would create opportunities in the second half.

Carpenter has started all but one of Chelsea’s WSL matches as the unbeaten side reached the top of the table, with their only dropped points coming in an opening-weekend draw against Aston Villa. In Chelsea’s 6-0 win at Charlton, she scored in the 13th minute, made three tackles and recorded 12 ball recoveries.

Her forward contribution is reflected in 56 touches in the opposition box, with only Khadija Shaw, Lauren Hemp and Victoria Pelova recording more in the WSL. Carpenter has also created 19 chances and completed 141 successful passes in the final third, more than any Chelsea player.

Carpenter joined Chelsea from Lyon in 2025 after previously working with Bompastor and winning the Champions League together in 2022. Chelsea have used her as a right wing-back, while Lucy Bronze moves inside in a back three. The Blues have conceded four league goals, the fewest in the WSL, and Carpenter ranks second in the squad for successful tackles.
