Arabic version: إيران توسّع تحركاتها الدبلوماسية مع تنامي تهديدات الضربات الأميركية
According to Al Jazeera, Iran has intensified diplomatic efforts while President Donald Trump has said the United States may resume major strikes. Trump told reporters on Thursday that he may have to “destroy” the rest of Iran, while Axios quoted a US official as saying Central Command was preparing for a possible resumption of major operations.
Iran offered the US a new nuclear and peace proposal through Qatari mediators, Reuters reported, citing a senior Iranian official. Tehran says any discussion must follow Washington’s acceptance of seven demands, including sanctions relief, the unfreezing of Iranian assets and an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports. Iran has linked those demands to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restarting negotiations.
Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei travelled to Moscow on Thursday and met Russian President Vladimir Putin, delivering a message from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Kremlin images showed foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov and military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov at the meeting. Rezaei said the talks also covered gas pipelines from Russia to Iran, which he said could address Iranian gas shortages and support Russian energy sales to neighbouring countries.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also spoke with Gulf and regional counterparts, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkiye, Qatar and Oman. The discussions focused on regional developments, de-escalation, security and stability. Qatar said its prime minister discussed efforts to reduce tensions with Araghchi, while Oman said safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz was a central subject.
Tehran has warned that it will respond more broadly if US attacks resume. It continues to tightly control shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, where several vessels have been damaged in recent days. The Revolutionary Guard navy said at least seven tankers caught fire after sailing into mines on unauthorised routes near Oman, though maritime organisations had not confirmed the incidents.
