According to BBC News, Sunday’s front pages are led by reports that a Briton was killed in shootings in central Krakow and by the Royal Family’s tribute to serving and former military personnel at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance.
The Sunday Times reports that Polish authorities said a gunman killed the Briton and five other people in Krakow. The Prince and Princess of Wales appear on several front pages after joining King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the Festival of Remembrance. The Sunday Telegraph says the royals listened to veterans’ stories told through letters sent home to family members.
The Sunday Express focuses on compensation delays for veterans with physical and mental injuries, reporting average waits of more than nine months. Campaigners are urging Prime Minister Andy Burnham to act on what they call a battle with bureaucracy. A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said it was working at pace to compensate eligible people as quickly as possible, including through overtime and weekend work, while prioritising people who are terminally ill.
Other papers cover UK-EU relations, polling and legal cases. The Sunday Mirror reports that Burnham said closer ties with the EU would pay off for families across the UK, ahead of a Brussels summit on 20 November. The Mail on Sunday reports a Lord Ashcroft poll placing Labour on 31%, the Conservatives on 26% and Reform on 18%. The Daily Star leads on Russell Brand’s conviction on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
The Observer features Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori, who is challenging the group’s proscription at the Supreme Court. It also reports warnings from security experts about cyber-attacks on supermarket fridges and freezers across Europe, saying the attacks appeared intended to cause disruption rather than financial gain.
