On March 8, 2024, the globe marked International Women’s Day (IWD), a pivotal occasion celebrating the vast and varied achievements of women. This year, under the banner #InspireInclusion, the day called on people everywhere to envision a world of gender equality—a realm absent of stereotypes and discrimination, where diversity, equity, and inclusivity are the norm, and differences are not just acknowledged but embraced.
The essence of IWD lies in collective action and shared responsibility for driving gender parity. It’s a day that underscores the progress achieved while pointing to the path that still lies ahead in the quest for true equality. The Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce (CBCC), under the expert leadership of CEO Wally Mehanna, has been at the forefront of advocating for women’s rights and strives towards a world that is more inclusive for all.

To commemorate the occasion, the CBCC held its annual Women in Leadership Event in South West Sydney, which saw an impressive gathering of members and guests from the locality and beyond. The event, known for its vibrant celebration of women’s contributions to both economy and community, featured an array of speakers and panelists. These influential figures shared their personal journeys and insights, aiming to motivate and encourage women to get involved and make a difference.
This year’s theme, #InspireInclusion, guided the narrative of the event, emphasizing the importance of creating spaces where everyone’s unique traits are not only accepted but valued. In leadership and beyond, embracing diversity is key to fostering teams that are innovative, resilient, and successful.

What stands out on International Women’s Day, and particularly at events like the CBCC’s Women in Leadership, is the reminder that the journey towards gender equality is ongoing. Celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness, and encouraging more involvement from women in all spheres of life are crucial steps in this journey. Through collective efforts and shared vision, we can all contribute to a world where equality is not just a goal, but a reality.
