Arabic version: وزير الخارجية الإيراني يدعو إلى حلول دبلوماسية للتوترات مع الولايات المتحدة
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Iran is “prepared for peace” and diplomacy with the United States, suggesting that a possible deal between the two countries remains close despite the threats from Washington. Speaking to the US television network MS NOW, Araghchi stressed that Iran’s nuclear programme has no military solution.
According to Al Jazeera, Araghchi criticized the enormous US military build-up in the Middle East, which includes two aircraft carriers and dozens of fighter jets, calling it “unnecessary and unhelpful.” He stated that a fair and win-win solution is essential for a successful deal, warning that military options would only complicate matters and lead to disastrous consequences for the region.
In response to a question about potential US military actions, President Donald Trump acknowledged he was considering limited strikes against Iran to boost Washington’s negotiating position. Araghchi cautioned that Iranians are “proud people” who respond only to the “language of respect,” indicating that previous US strategies of war and sanctions have failed.
Despite the escalating military presence around Iran, both nations have held two rounds of talks over the past month, and officials from both countries have described the negotiations as positive. Trump has issued deadlines for reaching a deal, extending the timeframe from 10 to 15 days. Tensions have risen as the US continues to issue threats, including warnings of “something very tough” and “traumatic” consequences if Iran does not comply with demands.
Araghchi noted that the next step in the negotiation process involves Iran submitting a written proposal to US negotiators led by Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff. He expressed optimism about the guiding principles established for the negotiations and the potential for finalizing a deal in future meetings.
