Arabic version: ريبل ويلسون تدلي بشهادتها في قضية تشهير تتعلق بنزاع فيلم
Rebel Wilson appeared at the Federal Court in Sydney to provide evidence in a defamation trial against her. The case was brought forth by Charlotte MacInnes, the lead actor in Wilson’s directorial debut, ‘The Deb’. Surrounded by her legal team and a throng of reporters, Wilson greeted the media with a brief “good morning” but did not elaborate on the proceedings.
According to ABC News, the lawsuit stems from claims made by MacInnes, who alleged that Wilson made incorrect public statements regarding her experiences with sexual harassment by the film’s producer, Amanda Ghost. MacInnes contends that Wilson’s comments were defamatory and misrepresented her actions following the incident.
The incident in question occurred in 2023 when MacInnes and Ghost went for a swim in Bondi. Following the swim, Ghost reportedly suffered a reaction to the cold water, prompting both women to return to Ghost’s apartment to warm up. MacInnes’s legal representative, Sue Chrysanthou SC, emphasized that both women remained clothed during this incident.
In July 2024, Wilson publicly accused Ghost of misconduct through an Instagram video, asserting that Ghost had acted inappropriately towards “the lead actress of the film” [The Deb]. Further complicating the matter, Wilson allegedly instructed her PR firm to create a website accusing Ghost of being a “madam” who was “procuring young women for the pleasure of the extremely wealthy”.
The trial has already heard testimonies from both MacInnes and Ghost, with Wilson’s appearance in court today marking a significant moment in the ongoing legal battle over the allegations.
