Luke Harris, the youngest contestant on this season of MasterChef, is making waves in the culinary competition. The 20-year-old from Geraldton, 400 kilometres north of Perth, credits his upbringing in a regional community for shaping his passion for cooking. “It does feel a bit weird … a year ago I was just some random bloke who likes cooking and now I’m on TV,” Harris remarked.

According to ABC News, Harris’s culinary journey began at a young age, inspired by his parents and encouraged by friends and teachers. His former food technology teacher, Derek Goforth, noted that Harris always had a unique approach to cooking, often experimenting with flavors and techniques.

Another contestant from regional WA, Hannah Johnson, also showcases her culinary skills on the show. Hailing from Esperance, 696 kilometres south of Perth, Johnson has experience cooking for farmers during seeding and harvest. “Food is always something people look forward to,” she stated, emphasizing her desire to provide diverse meals for those working long hours.

Both contestants represent the talent emerging from regional Australia, demonstrating that passion and creativity can lead to success on a national stage. Their stories highlight the influence of their local communities in shaping their culinary skills and aspirations.
