Spread the love

Music is known to unite people from across the world. For the Al-Masri family, it serves as a language that connects and speaks to each family member’s creative flair, personal expression, and love for Lebanon and Australia.

Jad, Oli, and Rabih Al-Masri are known as creative composers, lyricists, and musicians.

Despite his achievements as a lawyer in Australia, Jad set his eyes on a music and cultural career.

He explains that his compositions take the form of voice and “highlight the breadth and intensity of life.”

His compositions were part of the Disaster Series Concert, which was presented to music lovers at The Chatswood Concourse on 6 November 2024.

Jad and Rabih were joined by Arabic singer-songwriter Myriam Dib, Bellydancer Rosie Leona, and fellow Al-Masri family member and rapper ‘B.E.A.S.T’ (known as Oli to family) to perform their celebration of Arabic orchestra and music fusion.

The performance was a culmination of pieces inspired by Spanish, Latin American and Indian cultures, as well as an infusion of modern hip-hop and R&B.

For the Lebanese community, the concert signified the need to retain the richness of the Lebanese culture, which extends beyond language and to our music and history.

His mastery on each composition was inspired by the breadth and intensity of life.

Jad articulated how music is the ultimate expression of life and love.

“It unites us all through universal language.”

The Disaster Series Concert is inspired by the Al-Masris’ desire to preserve the cultural history of the Lebanese and Arabic traditions. The concept of the ‘disaster series’ itself reflects the creativity and natural talent of Jad and Rabih, as well as the time they spent perfecting the compositions that now form part of the compilation, which is now published on Spotify.

“(We) played a composition and repeated, letting our creative drive take over, before my dad (Rabih) commented, ‘What a disaster’.”

The concert was supported by Susie, the proud mother of Jad and Oli, who couldn’t have been happier seeing both her sons on stage celebrating their own take on music.

She explained that she loved watching “Jad’s dedication to his craft” and “Oli’s passion for his music” come to life on stage.

The Disaster Series concert paid homage to the golden days of Arabic orchestra and sound while also weaving in modern influences. It should be celebrated for its elegance and innovation in showcasing Lebanese culture.
