NSW Labor is today announcing Camden local, Sally Quinnell will run as the NSW Labor candidate for Camden in the NSW State Election due in March 2023.

Sally Quinnell has been a member of the Camden community for over fifteen years where she has worked as a school teacher across both Camden’s public and private schools including Camden South Public School, St Clare’s Primary School, Narellan Vale and Macarthur Anglican, Cobbitty.

Ms Quinnell lives in Camden with her husband Damien and their three children.

As a school teacher, Sally knows the value of a good education, and knows the issues facing our local schools and teachers – from shortages, to work loads to managing the COVID-19 pandemic.

As more people move into Camden, Sally is running to ensure the infrastructure is keeping pace with the growing population.

That means Camden has enough schools to accommodate for local children.

Gledswood Hills Public School is already overcrowded with 1142 students, but capacity for only 555. The promised upgrade to Gledswood Hills Public School has also not commenced construction.

Elizabeth Macarthur High School is 34 per cent over capacity with 1,370 students enrolled, but capacity for 1020.

It was confirmed yesterday that Gregory Hills Public School which was supposed to be completed by Term 1 next year – will be pop-up demountables only, with no completion date for the permanent school.

The local community and its children deserve better than demountable schools and over-crowded classes.

This Government and the current local member have had 12 years to ensure Camden have the necessary schools and infrastructure in place.

Career and community involvement

A passionate musician, Sally is also a small business owner, setting up Bandemonium, a music business which provided music education to hundreds of children across the Camden electorate.

She is also a founding member of the Camden Musical society which is creating opportunities for local performers to learn to showcase their musical and dancing talents.

Ms Quinnell has volunteered with Nepean Venturers and Cobbity Scout Group, is an active member of Camden Cowpastures Parkrun and is a dedicated parishioner of St Paul’s Church Camden where she participates in the choir.

Ms Quinnell’s children have been involved with the Camden Tigers Football Club, Camden RSL Gymnastics and Expressions Dance Academy, while she is an active member of the South Camden Tennis club.

Comment from Chris Minns, NSW Labor Leader:

“I’m excited to announce that Sally Quinnell will be the Labor candidate for Camden at the next election

“Sally is a passionate teacher, and an involved member of her community and I am confident she will make a strong local Member in NSW Parliament if she has the privilege of being elected.

“Sally is an experienced educator who knows the crisis facing schools across NSW and within the Camden area – it requires a local who is committed to action.

“This Government has had 12 years in the job, and it’s time for a direction for Camden.

“I believe Sally can and will make a real difference if she is elected to represent Camden at the 2023 state election.

Comment from Sally Quinnell:

“I love Camden and am dedicated to making it a better place for my children to grow up in.

“I have witnessed first hand the crisis facing the schools in our area. This Government and our current local member have had 12 years, and they have not delivered for our community.

“Camden deserves a strong advocate within NSW Parliament, and after teaching our local kids for many years, I can’t sit back any longer.

“I am putting my hand up to be that voice for Camden in Parliament because only a Labor Government will focus on ensuring we have enough schools and teachers for our area.
