A powerful new documentary is coming to Sydney that tells the untold stories of ordinary young people doing extraordinary things in Myanmar’s struggle for freedom. The internationally acclaimed film Zoomers, directed by Dylan Chow, has captured hearts across the globe, winning 14 international awards for its unflinching portrayal of resistance and resilience.
Through seven interconnected narratives, Zoomers follows young individuals whose lives have been forever changed by Myanmar’s political upheaval. Each story is a testament to the human cost of standing up for what one believes in.
Among them is a Tatmadaw soldier who makes the agonizing decision to abandon his post and join the resistance, refusing to carry out unjust orders. There is a young man haunted by betrayal and loss, forced to flee after witnessing the deaths of trusted companions. Another follows an ordinary youth, thrust unexpectedly into the revolution’s front lines. A young couple’s love story becomes a tragedy when one is shot down in front of the other. A dedicated doctor risks everything to care for the wounded and the cause. And a courageous spy operates in the shadows, gathering critical intelligence at personal peril.
What binds these seven together is not just their commitment to freedom, but their willingness to sacrifice everything—their families, homes, futures, and peace of mind—for a vision of a better Myanmar. They navigate treacherous jungles, dangerous cities, and foreign lands with unwavering resolve, knowing that victory is far from guaranteed.
Sydney Friends for Myanmar Unity is hosting a special screening of Zoomers to bring the community together in solidarity with the Burmese people. This is an opportunity to hear these extraordinary voices, to witness the personal cost of revolution, and to stand in witness to their struggle.
Don’t miss this chance to be part of an important conversation about freedom, courage, and the power of collective action.
