Alex James, the bassist for Blur, has opened up about his favorite songs, revealing a mix of personal memories and unexpected choices. According to The Guardian, James reflects on his musical journey, from his childhood favorites to the tracks that resonate with him today.

One standout in his playlist is Oasis’s “Wonderwall,” which he claims goes down a fucking storm at parties. James describes the song as a crowd-pleaser, noting that it often elicits laughter while also being a genuinely great track. He also reminisces about his early musical experiences, including his first single purchase, “Come on Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners, which he bought during a canal boat holiday.

James also shares his karaoke choice, “Bohemian Like You” by the Dandy Warhols, calling it “effortless and joyous.” He admits to having no secrets about his musical tastes, expressing his love for tracks like “Hot Dog” and “Green Door” by Shakin’ Stevens, despite the fact that many might consider them guilty pleasures.

Among the songs that have impacted him, James highlights “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division as life-changing, as it inspired him to learn the bass. He also mentions that he has grown tired of the Beatles’ “Hey Jude” but has recently come to appreciate it again. As for emotional connections, he reveals that Radiohead’s “Creep” has brought him to tears during performances, especially as his daughter has begun singing it.

Looking ahead, James is set to embark on his Britpop Classical tour starting 11 March, where he will perform 90s hits backed by a full orchestra, showcasing his deep-rooted connection to the music that shaped his career.
