Arabic version: فاتورة أجور ليفربول تعزز نجاحهم في لقب الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز
Liverpool had the highest wage bill in the Premier League when winning their 20th league title last season, according to The Guardian. The club’s wage expenditure rose by £42 million to a total of £428 million for the year ending May 31, 2025. This increase coincided with a significant rise in revenue, reaching a record £703 million, largely due to a successful season under head coach Arne Slot.
Liverpool’s wages-to-revenue ratio stood at a healthy 61%, clearly indicating the club’s financial strategy as they sought to balance expenditure with income. This figure placed them ahead of Manchester City, which had a wage bill of £408 million.
Liverpool’s commercial revenue saw an increase of £15 million, bringing it to £323 million, while matchday revenue rose by £14 million to reach £116 million. Despite these gains, the increase in wages led to a modest post-tax profit of £8 million, especially after experiencing a £57 million loss the previous season when they missed out on Champions League qualification.
Chief Financial Officer Jenny Beacham emphasized the club’s commitment to financial sustainability and the importance of growing revenue streams. She noted that the 2024-25 season exemplified how Liverpool could achieve record revenues while also winning the league title.
However, Beacham also acknowledged the financial challenges ahead, including rising operational costs and the need to remain competitive in both men’s and women’s football. The latest accounts do not reflect Liverpool’s record summer spending of nearly £450 million on new players, including the British record signing of Alexander Isak for £125 million. Slot has stressed that failing to qualify for the Champions League this season would be unacceptable, underscoring the competition’s critical role in the club’s operations.
