The Embassy of Lebanon in Canberra has issued an urgent appeal to Lebanese organisations and community associations across Australia to assist in providing humanitarian aid to those affected by the ongoing crisis in Lebanon.
According to the embassy’s announcement, the current situation has forced thousands of citizens to flee their homes and villages, leaving many families displaced and in need of immediate support. Lebanese authorities estimate that around 200,000 displaced people are currently being accommodated in shelters across various regions of the country.
The appeal outlines the pressing humanitarian needs identified by Lebanon’s Disaster Risk Management Unit, which is coordinating the national response to assist displaced communities. The request has been circulated to Lebanese institutions and associations in Australia with the aim of mobilising support from the diaspora.
The most urgent requirements focus on three key areas: basic relief items, water and sanitation supplies, and food security assistance. These essential supplies are critical for supporting families currently living in temporary shelters.
Among the priority items requested are mattresses and pillows, which are needed to improve basic living conditions for displaced individuals and families. In addition, there is a significant demand for hygiene kits and baby care kits, as well as drinking water, to help maintain sanitation and health standards within shelter facilities.
Food assistance is also a major priority, with authorities requesting food parcels to ensure that displaced families have access to essential nutrition during this difficult period.
The embassy has encouraged Lebanese organisations and community groups in Australia to share the announcement widely and contribute where possible. The call reflects the Lebanese government’s broader national effort to respond to the humanitarian needs of displaced citizens and to provide immediate relief to those affected by the crisis.
As the situation continues to unfold, the support of Lebanese communities around the world remains a vital component of the humanitarian response, helping to provide critical assistance and solidarity with those facing hardship in Lebanon.
