Denmark’s King Frederik and Queen Mary are in Melbourne for the second day of their state visit to Australia, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations. According to ABC News, the couple’s agenda includes opening a renewable energy conference and engaging with researchers in stem cell studies.
The royal couple began their day by attending an event at the Sofitel, where they met with businesses involved in the renewable energy sector. They are particularly interested in promoting collaboration between Denmark and Australia in areas of sustainable development.
Later, they visited the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute to learn about Danish-Australian partnerships in stem cell research. During their visit, they interacted with patients and onlookers at the Royal Children’s Hospital, showcasing their commitment to health and wellbeing.
This afternoon, King Frederik and Queen Mary will visit Headspace in South Melbourne to understand its initiatives in providing safe spaces for youth mental health. Their day will conclude with a visit to an exhibition by Danish Australian artists Rhoda Ting and Mikkel Bojesen, followed by a reception at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne.
This visit marks the first official trip to Australia for King Frederik and Queen Mary since King Frederik ascended to the Danish throne in January 2024.
