Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is reportedly leaning towards a transfer to Manchester City, edging out Manchester United in the race for his signature. According to BBC News, there is a growing expectation that Anderson will leave the City Ground this summer.
Manchester United are unwilling to overpay or get drawn into protracted negotiations, leaving the door open for City to secure the 23-year-old. Currently, no agreement has been reached between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, as both clubs are far apart on their valuation of the player. The potential transfer fee could become a record for a British player, eclipsing the £105 million Arsenal paid for Declan Rice in 2023.
Nottingham Forest’s management believes that if a major sale occurs this summer, it is likely to be Anderson. A fine World Cup performance with England could enhance Forest’s bargaining power. Following a recent 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, Forest manager Vitor Pereira expressed his desire to retain Anderson and teammate Morgan Gibbs-White, emphasizing the need to keep the best players to achieve consistent success.
Anderson joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle in 2024 for £35 million and has made 92 appearances, netting six goals. His recent match against Bournemouth marked his 50th appearance of the season, during which he received a standing ovation upon his substitution.
