Arabic version: ترامب يشكك في التنسيق الأمريكي الإسرائيلي بعد هجمات على حقول الغاز
US President Donald Trump issued a strongly worded statement following attacks on a major gas field shared by Iran and Qatar on Wednesday. Israel targeted Iran’s South Pars, part of the world’s largest natural gas field, prompting Iran to retaliate by striking an energy complex in Qatar. The conflict has led to a spike in energy prices, escalating tensions in the region. According to BBC News, Trump claimed the US had no prior knowledge of the Israeli attack, contradicting reports from Israeli media which suggested that the operation was coordinated with the United States.
Trump’s remarks raised questions about the alignment of US and Israeli strategies regarding Iran. He described Israel’s actions as a “violent lash out” and emphasized that no further attacks would occur unless Iran provoked them. This statement could imply either a warning to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or an assertion of control from the US.
Despite Trump’s assertions, Israeli officials maintained that the two nations are aligned in their objectives against Iran. Netanyahu stated that Israel acted independently in the recent strike and echoed Trump’s message about holding off on further attacks. However, Israeli officials have consistently expressed a desire for regime change in Iran, a goal that appears more urgent for them than for the US, which has focused on degrading Iran’s military capabilities.
In his post, Trump also implicated Iran in a misunderstanding regarding Qatar’s involvement in the attacks. He warned that any further aggression against Qatar would lead the US to retaliate with unprecedented force against Iran’s gas field. This rhetoric points to a potential escalation in military actions, raising concerns about the future of US-Israel relations and the broader implications for the region’s stability.
