Arabic version: الولايات المتحدة تخفف العقوبات مع تصاعد الأعمال العسكرية في الشرق الأوسط
According to The Guardian,
President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he is considering “winding down” military operations against Iran, coinciding with a temporary easing of sanctions on Iranian oil shipments. This decision aims to alleviate a global supply crisis exacerbated by ongoing hostilities in the region. According to The Guardian, the easing of sanctions allows for the delivery and sale of Iranian crude oil already loaded onto vessels prior to March 20, which will last until April 19.
The announcement comes as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched retaliatory strikes on Tehran, targeting what they described as regime installations. This escalation follows a series of missile attacks fired from Iran towards Israel, marking a significant increase in military actions amidst the ongoing US-Israel war against Iran that began on February 28.
In response to the Israeli strikes, Iran has intensified its military activities, launching drone and missile attacks against both Saudi Arabia and Israel. Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei claimed these actions have delivered a “dizzying blow” to their adversaries. As tensions rise, the US is reportedly sending three additional warships and thousands more troops to the region.
The situation has drawn international condemnation, with Saudi Arabia denouncing the Israeli attacks in Syria as “aggression” and calling for global intervention. Turkey has echoed similar sentiments, labeling the Israeli actions as a “dangerous escalation.” Syria’s foreign ministry also condemned the Israeli strikes, describing them as a violation of its sovereignty.
As military operations continue, the global economy remains on edge, particularly concerning oil prices and supply chains. The US Treasury’s temporary lifting of sanctions may provide some relief, but the ongoing conflict threatens to destabilize the region further.
