Arabic version: قطر والولايات المتحدة تعززان العلاقات خلال الصراع المستمر مع إيران
Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani met with senior US officials in Washington, DC, to discuss strengthening strategic ties during the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran. The discussions included US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary Scott Bessent, according to Al Jazeera.
The meetings aimed to enhance close strategic cooperation between Doha and Washington, particularly focusing on defense partnerships in light of the current regional tensions. Both parties emphasized the importance of ensuring energy supply sustainability and maintaining the flow of liquefied natural gas from Qatar to global markets to support energy security.
Vance praised Qatar’s active role in promoting regional stability and enhancing global energy security. The discussions come as the Gulf region faces heightened tensions due to the conflict, which has reportedly resulted in over 3,000 deaths since it began on February 28, with a vast majority of casualties occurring in Iran and Lebanon.
In addition to his meeting with Vance, Sheikh Mohammed also met with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to focus on defense and security collaboration amidst ongoing regional challenges. The Qatari Cabinet has condemned Iranian attacks on Qatar and neighboring countries, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
