Arabic version: فلوريدا تستعد لإطلاق صاروخ أرتيميس II التاريخي الليلة
Hundreds of thousands of spectators are expected to gather on Florida’s Space Coast to witness the launch of Artemis II tonight. According to BBC News, an estimated 400,000 people will crowd the causeways, beaches, and motel balconies to see four astronauts embark on a mission to fly around the Moon.
This 10-day test flight, while not landing on the Moon, aims to provide the crew with unprecedented views of lunar landscapes. Local businesses are preparing for a significant economic impact estimated at $160 million, with traffic plans in place for the influx of tourists. Bars and hotels are gearing up, advertising special events and warning guests of potential delays.
Brenda Mulberry, owner of Space Shirts, expressed excitement about the historic launch, stating that this event is unlike any she has experienced in her 40 years of selling NASA-themed merchandise. She has stocked up on T-shirts and souvenirs, aiming to cater to the anticipated surge of customers, and humorously dreams of opening the first T-shirt shop on the Moon.
The Artemis II mission, which is set to launch from the same pad that was used for the Apollo program, features NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the Orion capsule. This mission marks the first time the Orion capsule will carry a human crew, with astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen onboard.
As the countdown to launch approaches, the excitement builds not only for the mission itself but also for its potential to inspire a new generation of space explorers. If successful, Artemis II will pave the way for future missions aimed at establishing a permanent presence on the Moon and eventually reaching Mars.
