Parramatta is turning up the volume after dark with the launch of Undercurrent – a bold new live music series set to transform nights in Parramatta this autumn.

The Undercurrent series, held at Riverside Live at PHIVE, delivers a curated line-up of genre-spanning performances championing both emerging and established artists from Western Sydney including performances from Vv Pete on 29 May and Simply West on 12 June.

Designed to energise the City’s night-time economy, the series is part of a broader push to position Parramatta as a go-to destination for late-night cultural experiences.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the series reflects the City’s commitment to a vibrant, safe and well‑managed night‑time economy.

“Parramatta is evolving rapidly and Undercurrent is a perfect example of how we’re investing in

experiences that give people a reason to stay, explore and enjoy the City after dark,” Cr Zaiter said.

“Undercurrent supports local artists and businesses while showcasing the incredible creative talent of Western Sydney, helping cement Parramatta’s reputation as a leading cultural and nightlife destination.”

The series kicked off with Elsewhere in India, bringing international flavour to the stage with visiting Indian electronic music producer and DJ, Murthovic.

“Returning to Parramatta is always a joy,” said Mr Murthovic.

“Having Ravi, a Western Sydney artist open with his sitar is truly special – his artistry sets the perfect mood for the audio-visual journey we have in store.

“Together we look forward to making it a memorable evening for our audience.”

The series is also part of Parramatta’s Purple Flag grant program, supporting the City’s efforts to strengthen and expand the night-time offering and foster vibrant and well-managed night-time experiences across the CBD.

NSW 24-Hour Economy Commissioner, Michael Rodrigues said it’s wonderful to see Parramatta’s nightlife continue to evolve.

“With its Purple Flag accreditation, locals and visitors can head to Parramatta with confidence, knowing they’ll find a welcoming, accessible and vibrant night-time experience with a diverse range of offerings.”
