Will the Arab world be doomed to an unprecedented historical curse, with deeply entrenched factions fiercely battling one another? Or will it emerge as a beacon of hope and a positive legacy for future generations?
I have previously written many significant articles that aimed to avoid defamation, bias, or criticism directed at any specific entity, whether concerning the rampant crises in the fiery region that has become a furnace of conflict, or whether they are political, religious, or partisan in nature. However, what has occurred in the past, and continues to happen daily without interruption, offers little hope for peace or prosperity for the Arab peoples. This is especially true given the persistent struggles that have long been entrenched under the weight of foreign colonialism and unjust international conspiracies.
At times, I find myself questioning why I have penned numerous weekly articles for various political, cultural, and literary publications, and why I continue to write about the Arab world consistently. In light of the current circumstances, we are weary of the parties involved in wars and some leaders who fail to grasp the bitter reality experienced by the Arab populace and the weak, deteriorating conditions that no one envies in any form. It is indeed a source of shame when we discuss or write about painful truths, the suffering and regressive ideas prevalent among many peoples and rulers in various Arab nations, as well as the trials, tribulations, calamities, and unrest that plague every Arab country, where people endure the brunt of brutal and bloody wars amidst severe suffering, harsh living conditions, and poverty.
Undoubtedly, everyone is grappling with various forms of hardship in securing a decent living that has become elusive in this dark region. Yet, the shameful reality faced by every Arab individual is a serious historical tragedy in every sense of the word. It is well-known that the Arab man lives a life marked by violence, poverty, and deprivation, denied his humanitarian and national rights, often working for a meager salary if he can find employment at all. The unfortunate reality for every person living under the constant threat of insecurity—whether from political, religious, partisan, or tribal sources—is a deep-seated fear that drives many to consider emigration and expatriation. Indeed, it feels like a form of suicidal desperation for a citizen to abandon their home, land, identity, and nation in search of relief from fear, humiliation, phobias, threats, challenges, and a bleak, uncertain future.
What future awaits any Arab individual who wishes to remain in their homeland, the land of their ancestors? Can they expect a bright future and a stable life for themselves and their descendants? I do not believe that such a scenario is possible in the near or distant future. Nonetheless, we are in dire need of a definitive solution to these prevailing issues and chaos, one that does not neglect the human element, the country, the community, or their collective destiny. We must strive to escape the harshness of failed and unjust lives, to break free from oppression, poverty, humiliation, hunger, and deprivation. Will we soon witness a miracle descending from the heavens to resolve these complex matters and restore life to its natural state?
Is the pen, ink, and paper the only key to moving in the right direction through reading and writing, learning from the works of great thinkers? We must seek illumination and truth from their scientific and intellectual frameworks to learn from the thriving and advanced civilizations. This will help us avoid chronic mistakes, negligence, chaos, and indifference towards the people and the land. These persistent and unfortunate ailments that we have described have long been at the forefront of societal issues, as they are insurmountable hurdles encountered in every time and place.
What are we waiting for, and what is the sole, beneficial solution that offers hope to all? Can we find a comfortable way out of these fluctuations and dangerous crises? Our main goal in the vital field of media is to raise social awareness through publishing and social media platforms, aiming to achieve a better life and a comfortable future for everyone. Despite our significant and serious efforts in writing, the information we present often feels insufficient to explain all the details related to the current conditions in our countries and the broader Middle East. It amounts to only a fraction of the greater whole.
There are speculations and forecasts regarding the future of the Arab region. Should we consider treaties and strategies with major powers in the long run, which might help rectify complex issues and improve dire situations with the will, realism, and seriousness required for successful change? If we wish to see a vastly improved life and future for all the peoples of the region, we must not become accustomed to chaos, unrest, and the populist, security-driven, economic instability that is often void of genuine principles.
This is the recurring problem that has persisted unnoticed by many, one we have lived through and continue to experience, unfortunately. It leaves a profound psychological impact and a considerable void within a society that struggles to define its destiny and successful social future. How can we shape a future that upholds rights and the rule of law for all, so we can live wisely and truthfully, ensuring that all individuals receive their rights equally, justly, and fairly, free from classism, traditional injustice, and futile political confrontations?
These outdated, regressive notions are mere time-wasters offering no productive outcomes. In conclusion, I will leave you with a short phrase: “Silence in the face of truth is complicity.”
