UNICEF has expressed outrage following the killing of two water truck drivers by Israeli forces in Gaza. The incident occurred during routine water trucking on Friday morning at the Mansoura water filling point, which supplies Gaza City. In addition to the fatalities, two other individuals were wounded in the attack. According to Al Jazeera, UNICEF has since suspended its activities at the site.

The organization has called for Israeli authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure full accountability for the incident. UNICEF emphasized the importance of protecting humanitarian workers and essential service providers, stating that targeting civilians and critical infrastructure, such as water facilities, is unacceptable under international humanitarian law.

This tragic event occurs against a backdrop of escalating violence, with more than 750 Palestinians reportedly killed by Israeli forces since the US- and Qatar-brokered ceasefire in Gaza took effect last October. The ongoing conflict has resulted in severe humanitarian crises, impacting access to essential services like clean water.

In related news, violence continues in the occupied West Bank, where a Palestinian man was shot and killed by Israeli forces in Khirbet Salama. Reports indicate that more than 1,060 Palestinians have been killed in the region since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
