England’s women’s rugby team delivered a stunning performance against Scotland, winning 84-7 in the Women’s Six Nations match at Murrayfield. This victory marks a significant achievement for the Red Roses, who played in front of a record crowd of 30,498, the largest for a standalone women’s sporting event in Scotland. The team showcased their depth and resilience despite missing key players due to various reasons, including pregnancy and injuries.

According to BBC News, head coach John Mitchell acknowledged the challenges faced by the team but emphasized their ability to adapt. England scored a remarkable 12 tries, with captain Meg Jones contributing to the scoreline and describing the team’s performance as “relentless.” This victory extends England’s winning streak to 35 consecutive matches.

The absence of several senior players, including captain Zoe Stratford, did not hinder the team’s performance. Lilli Ives Campion and Abi Burton stepped up in the second row, while 19-year-old Demelza Short made her debut. Prop Maud Muir celebrated her 50th cap with a strong showing, and Sarah Bern continued her impressive form by scoring twice after coming off the bench.

Former England captain Katy Daley-Mclean praised the team’s dominance throughout the match, stating that they executed their game plan flawlessly. The forwards were particularly effective, winning collisions and maintaining pressure on Scotland. England’s fly-half Zoe Harrison had an exceptional day, converting all 12 tries, while Ellie Kildunne reached her milestone of 50 international tries with two scores.

Looking ahead, England’s next challenge is against winless Wales in Bristol on April 25, followed by matches against Italy and France, with the potential for clinching their eighth consecutive Women’s Six Nations title and a fifth straight Grand Slam on the line.
