Dear resident

Anzac Day – a day of honour and support

Each year on 25 April, we recognise the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country in war, conflict and peacekeeping.

The date of Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the Gallipoli landing in 1915. Many soldiers from many countries died at Gallipoli, including over 8,000 Australians.

Over time, this day has become a day to remember not just all who have given their lives in service, but also those who returned home changed and those who serve today. Their selflessness and bravery are an example to us.

I invite you all to reflect in your own way on this important day. You could go to a dawn memorial service, take part in a march, or watch one. Or you might just pause for a moment in your day to think about those who have served.

I also want to acknowledge that Anzac Day can be a difficult time, especially for people affected by current conflicts around the world. As a community, we must support each other with kindness and understanding, not just on Anzac Day, but every day.

Lest we forget.
