Stan Moody, a 19-year-old snooker player from Halifax, has made an impressive debut at the World Snooker Championship, taking a 6-3 lead against former champion Kyren Wilson in their first-round match. Moody, currently ranked 44th in the world, needs just four more frames to secure his place in history as the youngest player to win a match at the Crucible since a 19-year-old Ronnie O’Sullivan in 1995.

According to BBC News, Moody’s journey to the Crucible was not without challenges. He had to qualify for the tournament by winning two matches, and just a day before his final qualifier, he was hospitalized with tonsillitis. Defying medical advice, he discharged himself and went on to defeat China’s Jiang Jun 10-9, clinching his spot at the prestigious venue.

In the match against Wilson, Moody started strong, making a break of 84 and winning the first three frames. Wilson managed to secure two frames but could not keep pace with Moody, who responded with two centuries—one of 110 and another of 101. Wilson managed to win the final frame of the session, narrowing the gap to three frames.

The evening session is set to begin at 19:00 BST, where Wilson will need to win seven frames to advance further in the tournament. Moody’s remarkable performance has already captured the attention of fans and pundits alike, as he aims to continue his successful run at the Crucible.
