Surrey Police have closed an investigation into a reported rape outside Epsom Methodist Church, stating that no sexual offence took place. The inquiry was initiated after a woman in her 20s claimed she was raped on 11 April.
According to BBC News, police conducted an extensive investigation and determined that the woman sustained an accidental head injury following a night out, leading to a confused report regarding the incident.
A police spokesperson emphasized that every report of sexual offending is taken seriously and treated with sensitivity. They also noted that the woman involved has given them permission to share this information and is receiving support from relevant services.
The investigation’s closure follows public unrest and protests in Epsom related to the initial report, highlighting the community’s concerns surrounding safety and sexual offences.
