Arabic version: الملك تشارلز يهدف إلى تعزيز العلاقات الأمريكية البريطانية خلال الزيارة الرسمية
King Charles and Queen Camilla will embark on a state visit to the United States, aimed at “renewing and revitalising a unique friendship” between the two nations, according to BBC News. The royal couple is set to arrive in Washington DC on Monday, despite recent political tensions and a security incident involving President Trump over the weekend.
UK Ambassador Sir Christian Turner confirmed that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer spoke with President Trump on Sunday, affirming that the visit would proceed largely as planned. The visit will include a series of ceremonial events, with the first stop at the White House, where the King and Queen will be greeted by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
In light of the recent shooting incident, security measures have been heightened, although the overall itinerary remains intact. The visit will serve as a platform for both nations to showcase their shared history and values, with the UK emphasising investment, military cooperation, and fostering connections between citizens.
The highlight of the visit will be King Charles’s address to the US Congress on Tuesday, where he will navigate the delicate balance of promoting UK interests while maintaining amicable relations with President Trump. The King and Queen will also attend a garden party with guests linked to both countries following their meeting at the White House.
While some critics, including Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey, have called for the visit to be cancelled due to concerns over President Trump’s reliability, the UK government remains optimistic that the royal visit could enhance diplomatic ties. President Trump has expressed his admiration for King Charles, stating that he sees him as a “fantastic person and a tremendous representative.”
