Melania Trump has criticized late-night host Jimmy Kimmel for referring to her as an “expectant widow” just days before a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner she attended with the president. The First Lady labeled Kimmel’s remarks as “hateful and violent,” urging his broadcaster ABC to take action against his “atrocious behavior.” According to BBC News, Kimmel made his comment during a parody of the dinner, stating, “Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.”

In a post on X, Melania Trump expressed that individuals like Kimmel should not be allowed to enter homes each evening to spread hate. She criticized his monologue about her family, asserting that it is not comedy but rather corrosive and deepens political divisions in America. She questioned how many times ABC’s leadership would enable Kimmel’s behavior at the expense of the community.

The backlash against Kimmel’s joke intensified after a gunman opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, an event attended by journalists and public figures, including the Trumps. The shooter, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, was tackled by agents near a staircase that leads down to a ballroom where the correspondents’ dinner was taking place. Following the incident, President Trump described the experience as “rather traumatic” for his wife.

The incident has led to calls from some conservative social media users for Kimmel to be removed from the air. This is not the first time Kimmel has faced backlash; he was previously taken off air last September after making comments regarding the shooting of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, which he later acknowledged may have been perceived as “ill-timed or unclear.”

The suspect in the recent shooting is expected to appear in court on Monday, and the incident continues to raise concerns about political violence and the rhetoric used by public figures.
