A United Airlines plane struck a truck and a streetlight while landing at Newark Airport in New Jersey, resulting in one injury. The incident occurred on Sunday as the Boeing 767 was arriving from Venice, Italy. Fortunately, all 231 passengers and crew on board were unharmed.
According to BBC News, the truck driver was lightly injured from glass shards after one of the plane’s tyres went through the truck’s window and windscreen. Dash camera footage captured the moment of impact, which sent glass flying.
In response to the incident, United Airlines announced that it would conduct a rigorous flight safety investigation. The crew involved has been removed from service during this process. Additionally, the airline’s maintenance team is assessing the damage to the aircraft.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also involved, having dispatched an investigator to the scene. They have required United Airlines to submit the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder for examination.
