According to Cnbc, investors entering the new trading week are focused on the direction of artificial intelligence stocks after a bruising week for the sector. The report said midterm-election results and local ballot measures could slow data-center development, AI investment and construction. That risk could affect future earnings for chipmakers, electrical-equipment suppliers and other companies supporting the AI buildout.
CoreWeave’s Tuesday-night earnings report is expected to be a key test for the AI trade. CNBC said investors have been watching the neocloud company’s bonds and shares as gauges of appetite for AI-related stocks. CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator’s comments on the conference call may influence the market’s response. Nebius is scheduled to report Thursday morning, while Cisco Systems and Applied Materials are due to release quarterly results Thursday evening.
Inflation data and Federal Reserve commentary are also set to command attention. The October consumer price index is scheduled for Tuesday morning, followed by the producer price index on Friday. As of Sunday, traders were pricing in 78% odds of a quarter-point rate increase at the Fed’s December meeting, according to the CME FedWatch tool. Hot inflation readings could lead markets to anticipate further tightening.
Fed Governor Christopher Waller is scheduled to speak Tuesday, and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack is due to make remarks Thursday. Both are voting members of the Federal Open Market Committee this year. The week’s calendar also includes wholesale inventories on Monday, initial jobless claims and existing home sales on Thursday, and a range of corporate earnings reports.
