Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed skepticism regarding the United States’ seriousness about resuming talks to resolve ongoing tensions in the region. During a media conference at a BRICS meeting in New Delhi, Araghchi revealed that despite receiving messages from President Donald Trump’s administration signaling openness to negotiations, distrust persists in Tehran regarding US intentions.

According to Al Jazeera, Araghchi highlighted a deadlock surrounding Iran’s enriched material, indicating that discussions on Tehran’s nuclear program are likely to be postponed until later stages of any future negotiations. He stated, “For the time being, it is not under discussion, it’s not under negotiation, but we will come to that subject in later stages.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister confirmed recent discussions with Russian officials regarding Moscow’s proposal to store Iran’s enriched uranium, suggesting that this option could be revisited at an appropriate time in future negotiations. He emphasized the importance of having more consultations with Russia as the situation develops.

Furthermore, Araghchi underscored Iran’s openness to support from other countries, particularly China, to help resolve the ongoing conflict. He described the relationship between Iran and China as one of strategic partnership and expressed appreciation for any diplomatic efforts that could assist in alleviating the crisis.

In his remarks, Araghchi also criticized the United Arab Emirates for obstructing parts of a BRICS ministerial statement, attributing this to the UAE’s close ties with Israel and its support for US actions against Iran. He termed this interference as “very, very unfortunate,” reflecting the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the region.
