Families will benefit from cheaper theme park tickets and children’s meals this summer due to a temporary VAT cut announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves. According to BBC News, the VAT will be reduced from 20% to 5% starting at the end of June when schools break up in Scotland, lasting until children return to classrooms in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland on September 1.
The VAT reduction applies to a variety of attractions, including fairs, theme parks, zoos, museums, as well as children’s tickets for cinemas, concerts, soft play areas, adventure centres, and theatres. Additionally, children’s meals in restaurants and cafes will also see a price decrease due to this measure.
This initiative is part of a broader government effort to alleviate cost of living pressures on families. Alongside the VAT cut, Reeves also announced free bus journeys for children in August and reductions in import taxes on certain basic food items as part of the “Great British Summer Savings” campaign.
Reeves emphasized that the program aims to support families in enjoying outings and meals while also benefiting businesses across the UK. The government hopes these measures will provide families with affordable options for entertainment and dining during the summer months.
